Nature’s Nitrogen contains a live culture of wholly natural and harmless soil bacteria. This live culture is carried in a sterilised, ground peat to help the storage and application of the product. Crops such as peas and beans have the ability to make or “fix” all the nitrogen they require. They do this in specialised structures on their roots called “nodules”. Nodules are formed when specific bacteria from the Rhizobium family penetrate the roots and set up these nitrogen factories or nodules. The plant supplies the bacteria in the nodules with food in return for a supply of nitrogen from the nodule. In this way the nitrogen is supplied as and when the plant needs it. This fixing of nitrogen by plants returns more nitrogen to soils throughout the world than all the chemical nitrogen fertilisers used in modern agriculture, it is “the way nature intended” nitrogen to be put back into soil.

There are 3 different types of Nature’s Nitrogen. Each type contains the correct species of bacteria to suit the pulse varieties shown on the label.

Nature’s Nitrogen only feeds the crop- no nitrogen is supplied to weeds. The bacteria can only form nodules on the specific crop plant, so they cannot supply nitrogen to any other plants.
No nitrogen is lost as harmful nitrates into ground water.
One application at planting means the crop will have all the nitrogen required for the whole season from planting to harvest.

How to use Nature’s Nitrogen

1. Select appropriate Nature’s Nitrogen sachet for the seeds to be treated.
2. Place the seeds into a clean container, something like a jam jar.
3. Sprinkle or spray the seeds with water. Rainwater is best as it does not contain chlorine. The seeds should be moist without any excess water in the container.
4. Open the Nature’s Nitrogen sachet carefully and sprinkle onto the seeds. Mix the peat into the seeds to ensure all the seed is coated.
5. Plant the treated seed within 4 hours.

Open the sachet
Add to the seed
Mix into the seed and plant as soon as possible

One sachet of Nature’s Nitrogen is sufficient to treat a standard packet of seed.

Once the seed germinates the bacteria begin work. They penetrate the developing roots forming small nodules. This process takes about 2 weeks, after that time the seedlings will have little nitrogen factories inside their roots and these will continue to supply nitrogen throughout the season especially during times of high nitrogen requirement such as when the plant fills the pods with nitrogen rich beans and peas.
